1. There is only one set of footprints in the sand

If you’ve never read the footprints poem, you should. It tells the story of a young man who was looking back on his past life. He noticed in many areas there were two sets of footprints in the sand, his and those of Jesus. However, at the hardest parts of his life there were only one set of footprints in the sand. He asked Jesus, “My Lord, why at the hardest times of my life did you leave me?” Jesus responded, “My precious child, I would never leave you during the times of life that brought you pain. Where you only see one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.” So you see because I’ve had to fight this chronic disease I know Jesus has been carrying me.

2. I don’t place my hopes in the doctors

My hope is placed in Jesus, not in the doctors. Therefore I am not disappointed when a doctor has no answer for me, because if my hope is in Jesus then I can’t be disappointed. Instead I trust that He knows exactly what’s happening so I have no need to worry.

3. I know there is a reason for my fight

If God is still putting air in my lungs, then He must want me to keep fighting. There must be a reason for my existence on earth so I need to keep fighting to fulfill that purpose. One day He will take the air from my lungs and bring me home to Heaven, but for now, He wants me here on earth fighting for a purpose I’m unaware of.

4. God’s timing is perfect

As time has passed I have learned that God’s timing is absolutely perfect. I don’t always see it at the time, but sometimes I see it after the fact. I learn how my timing would have failed, where His timing, that I thought was a mistake, was really timed quite perfectly.

5. I have been found worthy to suffer

God has deemed me strong enough to bear this burden of a disease. He has found me worthy enough to bear a greater burden than most in this world. He has given me a gift, to either use it for His glory or use it to bring my demise. I chose the former, to use the bad that this disease has brought me and turn it into good for others, and to bring Jesus’s light to those who are wandering in a dark and dismal place.
