Bennett Day Schools 9th & 10th grade students were tasked with creating a business revolving around an accessibility issue. During this Project Based Learning lesson plan, on Thursday, April 20 2023, Director and Founder of SPORK!,  Whitney Hill, visited the class and presented on the ADA, universal design and how to conduct user testing.

Students have created everything from musicals to apps to physical prototypes, that address concerns from the community and improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The students worked collaboratively to design and implement their projects, learning valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking along the way.

“Whitney's expertise and professionalism were truly impressive, and she left a lasting impact on our students. During her presentation, Whitney covered a range of topics related to disabilities, including non-apparent disabilities and representation. She effectively conveyed the importance of the ADA and its impact on individuals with disabilities.

One of the highlights of Whitney's presentation was an interactive activity in which she led us around our school to evaluate its accessibility. This activity was eye-opening for many of our students and helped them better understand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.

Overall, Whitney did an outstanding job in providing our students with a valuable educational experience. Her knowledge and passion for disability rights were evident throughout her presentation. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn more about this important topic.

Thank you, Whitney, for your excellent work and dedication to educating others about these important topics!
